At your first session I have several things for you to look at and fill out. I do my best to have it set out on a clipboard with your first name on it so you can fill it out before the session begins. I suggest you arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled time for the first visit.
When you arrive make yourself comfortable in the waiting area and I will come to get you at the appointed time. Occasionally I do go over on sessions so I might be out just a little late.
If you need to use the restroom a key is found on the table by the wall opposite the entryway. The restroom in out the door you came in and to the left. It is marked.
As we begin the session together I will go over any questions you have on the informed consent or other paperwork. I may have clarification questions for you then we can begin our work together. I will ask you about why you have decided to come into therapy and what you expect or would like to get out of sessions. Toward the end of the session I will explain to you what I have "heard" you say your goals for therapy are and ask if I got it right. This is the beginning of the plan that we will work together on. The goals can always change but I like to have something in mind so we can stay directed toward what you want most. As the sessions ends we can schedule our next appointment.
Between sessions I am available by phone. If I am unable to answer immediately I will call back as soon as I can for brief questions or to reschedule an appointment. Please give me 24 hours advance notice for appointments you must miss. I can be reached at (916) 316-0595 or by e-mail at David@BridgesCounselingCenter.com
